In the high-tech world we live in, computer hardware and software support are two of the core competencies required for building the next generation of technologies. A+ Certification is an industry recognized credential that certifies the competency of PC Service Specialists. Network+ certification is an industry recognized credential that certifies the competency of candidates to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services. After completing this program, the student will have a working knowledge of how to build, repair, troubleshoot and configure a computer and its software, build a SOHO network, and to troubleshoot and reduce systems-related issues within an organization.
The course consists of both lecture and hands-on. The IRL lab provides students with opportunities to work with computer components, both PC and laptop, and to work with servers, as well as, design build and run a small in-class network.
This course is designed to help candidates prepare for the CompTIA A+ and Network+ Certification Exams.
About the Profession: Information Technology has many different fields: deskside support, helpdesk, computer repair and maintenance, customer support and security awareness, adverse event remediation, upgrades to hardware and software, installations, automated processes, networking, designing computing environments, Point-of-Sale device support, stand-alone kiosks, mobile devices, virus remediation, disaster recovery, network traffic shaping, firewalls, TCP/IP and other internet protocols and internetworking. The knowledge gained in this course is critical to both our everyday world and to all businesses and organizations. The A+ credential provides proof to employers that the student has the knowledge and capability to manage and maintain a businesses’ deskside, mobile and hardware infrastructure. The Network+ credential provides proof to employers that the student has the knowledge and capability to design, build, maintain and manage a local network infrastructure, both wired and wireless, as well as, maintain and manage connections between local networks and the internet.
